5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for (A)they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as (B)they did. 7 (C)Do not be idolaters (D)as some of them were; as it is written, (E)“The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”

5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.(A)
6 Now these things occurred as examples(B) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters,(C) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](D)
