5 But God was not well-pleased with the majority of them, for they were strewn in the wilderness.
Do Not Follow Their Example
6 Now these things took place as our examples, so that we might not be desirers of evil things, as those also desired. 7 And do not be idolaters, as some of them, as-indeed it has been written [in Ex 32:6], “The people sat-down to eat and drink, and stood up to play”.

New International Version
5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.(A)
6 Now these things occurred as examples(B) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters,(C) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](D)
