9 Also Eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river [a]Perath: for they had much cattle in the land of Gilead.
10 And in the days of Saul they warred with the [b]Hagrites, which fell by their hands: and they dwelt in their tents in all the East parts of Gilead.
11 ¶ And the children of Gad dwelt over against them in the land of Bashan, unto Salcah.

New International Version
9 To the east they occupied the land up to the edge of the desert that extends to the Euphrates(A) River, because their livestock had increased in Gilead.(B)
10 During Saul’s reign they waged war against the Hagrites(C), who were defeated at their hands; they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites throughout the entire region east of Gilead.
