All these were under the [a]hand of their father singing in the house of the Lord with cymbals, viols and harps, for the service of the house of God, and Asaph, and Jeduthun, and Heman were at the King’s [b]commandment.

So was their number with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even of all that were cunning, two hundred fourscore and eight.

And they cast lots, [c]charge against charge, as well [d]small as great, the cunning man as the scholar.

Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman(B) were under the supervision of the king.(C) Along with their relatives—all of them trained and skilled in music for the Lord—they numbered 288. Young and old alike, teacher as well as student, cast lots(D) for their duties.
