A census of L’vi’im thirty years old and over was taken, and their number came to 38,000. Of these, 24,000 were to oversee the work on the house of Adonai, while 6,000 were officials and judges, 4,000 were gatekeepers, and 4,000 sang praise to Adonai “with the instruments I made for the purpose of singing praise.”

The Levites thirty years old or more(A) were counted,(B) and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.(C) David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in charge(D) of the work(E) of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges.(F) Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instruments(G) I have provided for that purpose.”(H)
