¹⁷The sons of Shem were

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram,

Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshek.

¹⁸Arphaxad became the father of Shelah,

and Shelah became the father of Eber.

¹⁹Two sons were born to Eber:

The name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.
