Ac yn y bedwar ugeinfed a phedwar cant o flynyddoedd wedi dyfod meibion Israel allan o’r Aifft, yn y bedwaredd flwyddyn o deyrnasiad Solomon ar Israel, yn y mis Sif, hwnnw yw yr ail fis, y dechreuodd efe adeiladu tŷ yr Arglwydd. A’r tŷ a adeiladodd y brenin Solomon i’r Arglwydd oedd drigain cufydd ei hyd, ac ugain cufydd ei led, a deg cufydd ar hugain ei uchder. A’r porth o flaen teml y tŷ oedd ugain cufydd ei hyd, yn un hyd â lled y tŷ; ac yn ddeg cufydd ei led, o flaen y tŷ. Ac efe a wnaeth i’r tŷ ffenestri, yn llydain oddi fewn, ac yn gyfyng oddi allan.

Ac efe a adeiladodd wrth fur y tŷ ystafelloedd oddi amgylch mur y tŷ, ynghylch y deml, a’r gafell; ac a wnaeth gelloedd o amgylch. Yr ystafell isaf oedd bum cufydd ei lled, a’r ganol chwe chufydd ei lled, a’r drydedd yn saith gufydd ei lled: canys efe a roddasai ategion o’r tu allan i’r tŷ oddi amgylch, fel na rwymid y trawstiau ym mur y tŷ. A’r tŷ, pan adeiladwyd ef, a adeiladwyd o gerrig wedi eu cwbl naddu cyn eu dwyn yno; fel na chlybuwyd na morthwylion, na bwyeill, nac un offeryn haearn yn y tŷ, wrth ei adeiladu. Drws y gell ganol oedd ar ystlys ddeau y tŷ; ac ar hyd grisiau troëdig y dringid i’r ganol, ac o’r ganol i’r drydedd. Felly yr adeiladodd efe y tŷ, ac a’i gorffennodd; ac a fyrddiodd y tŷ â thrawstiau ac ystyllod o gedrwydd. 10 Ac efe a adeiladodd ystafelloedd wrth yr holl dŷ, yn bum cufydd eu huchder: ac â choed cedr yr oeddynt yn pwyso ar y tŷ.

11 A daeth gair yr Arglwydd at Solomon, gan ddywedyd, 12 Am y tŷ yr wyt ti yn ei adeiladu, os rhodi di yn fy neddfau i, a gwneuthur fy marnedigaethau, a chadw fy holl orchmynion, gan rodio ynddynt; yna y cyflawnaf â thi fy ngair a leferais wrth Dafydd dy dad: 13 A mi a breswyliaf ymysg meibion Israel, ac ni adawaf fy mhobl Israel. 14 Felly yr adeiladodd Solomon y tŷ, ac a’i gorffennodd. 15 Ac efe a fyrddiodd barwydydd y tŷ oddi fewn ag ystyllod cedrwydd, o lawr y tŷ hyd y llogail y byrddiodd efe ef â choed oddi fewn: byrddiodd hefyd lawr y tŷ â phlanciau o ffynidwydd. 16 Ac efe a adeiladodd ugain cufydd ar ystlysau y tŷ ag ystyllod cedr, o’r llawr hyd y parwydydd: felly yr adeiladodd iddo o fewn, sef i’r gafell, i’r cysegr sancteiddiolaf. 17 A’r tŷ, sef y deml o’i flaen ef, oedd ddeugain cufydd ei hyd. 18 A chedrwydd y tŷ oddi fewn oedd wedi eu cerfio yn gnapiau, ac yn flodau agored: y cwbl oedd gedrwydd; ni welid carreg. 19 A’r gafell a ddarparodd efe yn y tŷ o fewn, i osod yno arch cyfamod yr Arglwydd. 20 A’r gafell yn y pen blaen oedd ugain cufydd o hyd, ac ugain cufydd o led, ac ugain cufydd ei huchder: ac efe a’i gwisgodd ag aur pur; felly hefyd y gwisgodd efe yr allor o gedrwydd. 21 Solomon hefyd a wisgodd y tŷ oddi fewn ag aur pur; ac a roddes farrau ar draws, wrth gadwyni aur, o flaen y gafell, ac a’u gwisgodd ag aur. 22 A’r holl dŷ a wisgodd efe ag aur, nes gorffen yr holl dŷ: yr allor hefyd oll, yr hon oedd wrth y gafell, a wisgodd efe ag aur.

23 Ac efe a wnaeth yn y gafell ddau o geriwbiaid, o bren olewydd, pob un yn ddeg cufydd ei uchder. 24 A’r naill adain i’r ceriwb oedd bum cufydd, a’r adain arall i’r cerub oedd bum cufydd: deg cufydd oedd o’r naill gwr i’w adenydd ef hyd y cwr arall i’w adenydd ef. 25 A’r ail geriwb oedd o ddeg cufydd: un mesur ac un agwedd oedd y ddau geriwb. 26 Uchder y naill geriwb oedd ddeg cufydd; ac felly yr oedd y ceriwb arall. 27 Ac efe a osododd y ceriwbiaid yn y tŷ oddi fewn: ac adenydd y ceriwbiaid a ymledasant, fel y cyffyrddodd adain y naill â’r naill bared, ac adain y ceriwb arall oedd yn cyffwrdd â’r pared arall; a’u hadenydd hwy yng nghanol y tŷ oedd yn cyffwrdd â’i gilydd. 28 Ac efe a wisgodd y ceriwbiaid ag aur. 29 A holl barwydydd y tŷ o amgylch a gerfiodd efe â cherfiedig luniau ceriwbiaid, a phalmwydd, a blodau agored; o fewn ac oddi allan. 30 Llawr y tŷ hefyd a wisgodd efe ag aur, oddi fewn ac oddi allan.

31 Ac i ddrws y gafell y gwnaeth efe ddorau o goed olewydd; capan y drws a’r gorsingau oedd bumed ran y pared. 32 Ac ar y ddwy ddôr o goed olewydd y cerfiodd efe gerfiadau ceriwbiaid, a phalmwydd, a blodau agored, ac a’u gwisgodd ag aur, ac a ledodd aur ar y ceriwbiaid, ac ar y palmwydd. 33 Ac felly y gwnaeth efe i ddrws y deml orsingau o goed olewydd, y rhai oedd bedwaredd ran y pared. 34 Ac yr oedd y ddwy ddôr o goed ffynidwydd: dwy ddalen blygedig oedd i’r naill ddôr, a dwy ddalen blygedig i’r ddôr arall. 35 Ac efe a gerfiodd geriwbiaid, a phalmwydd, a blodau agored, arnynt; ac a’u gwisgodd ag aur, yr hwn a gymhwyswyd ar y cerfiad.

36 Ac efe a adeiladodd y cyntedd nesaf i mewn â thair rhes o gerrig nadd, ac â rhes o drawstiau cedrwydd.

37 Yn y bedwaredd flwyddyn y sylfaenwyd tŷ yr Arglwydd, ym mis Sif: 38 Ac yn yr unfed flwyddyn ar ddeg, ym mis Bul, (dyna yr wythfed mis,) y gorffennwyd y tŷ, a’i holl rannau, a’i holl berthynasau. Felly mewn saith mlynedd yr adeiladodd efe ef.

Solomon Builds the Temple(A)

In the four hundred and eightieth[a] year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month,(B) he began to build the temple of the Lord.(C)

The temple(D) that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.[b] The portico(E) at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits,[c] and projected ten cubits[d] from the front of the temple. He made narrow windows(F) high up in the temple walls. Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.(G) The lowest floor was five cubits[e] wide, the middle floor six cubits[f] and the third floor seven.[g] He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.

In building the temple, only blocks dressed(H) at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool(I) was heard at the temple site while it was being built.

The entrance to the lowest[h] floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third. So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar(J) planks. 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.

11 The word of the Lord came(K) to Solomon: 12 “As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands(L) and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise(M) I gave to David your father. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon(N) my people Israel.”

14 So Solomon(O) built the temple and completed(P) it. 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling,(Q) and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.(R) 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.(S) 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits[i] long. 18 The inside of the temple was cedar,(T) carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.

19 He prepared the inner sanctuary(U) within the temple to set the ark of the covenant(V) of the Lord there. 20 The inner sanctuary(W) was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.(X) 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.

23 For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim(Y) out of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits—ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. 27 He placed the cherubim(Z) inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29 On the walls(AA) all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim,(AB) palm trees and open flowers. 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.

31 For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary. 32 And on the two olive-wood doors(AC) he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold. 33 In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall. 34 He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.

36 And he built the inner courtyard(AD) of three courses(AE) of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.

37 The foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details(AF) according to its specifications.(AG) He had spent seven years building it.
