7 내 아들아, 내 말을 지키며 내 교훈을 잘 간직하여라.
2 내 명령을 지켜라. 그러면 네가 살 것이다. 나의 가르침을 네 눈동자처럼 지키고
3 이것을 항상 간직하고 네 마음에 새겨라.
4 너는 지혜를 네 누이처럼 생각하고 가까운 친구처럼 여겨라.
5 그러면 이것이 너를 지켜 음란한 여자들의 유혹에 빠지지 않게 할 것이다.
음란한 여자를 조심하라
6 나는 우리 집 창문을 내다보면서
7 어리석은 자들을 많이 보았다. 그 중에서도 특별히 지각 없는 한 젊은이를 본 적이 있다.
8 그는 음란한 여자가 살고 있는 집 모퉁이 부근의 거리를 따라 그녀의 집 쪽으로 걸어가고 있었는데
9 때는 이미 해가 져서 어두움이 찾아드는 저녁 무렵이었다.
10 그러자 기생처럼 예쁘게 차려 입은 간교한 그 여자가 그를 맞으러 나왔다.
11 그녀는 집에 붙어 있지 않고 제멋대로 돌아다니며
12 어떤 때는 길거리에서, 어떤 때는 광장에서, 어떤 때는 길 이 모퉁이 저 모퉁이에 서서 남자를 기다리는, 창녀와 같은 여자였다.
13 그 여자가 그를 붙잡고 입을 맞추며 부끄러운 줄도 모르고 이렇게 말하였다.
14 “나는 오늘 화목제를 드려서 내가 서약한 것을 갚았다.
15 그래서 내가 너를 찾으려고 나왔는데 여기서 만나게 되었구나.
16 내 침대에는 이집트에서 수입해 온 아름다운 아마포가 깔려 있고
17 몰약과 유향과 계피를 뿌려 놓았다.
18 들어가자. 우리가 아침까지 마음껏 서로 사랑하며 즐기자.
19 내 남편은 먼 여행을 떠나고 지금 집에 없다.
20 그는 여비를 많이 가져갔으니 아마 보름이 되어야 집에 돌아올 것이다.”
21 그녀가 그럴 듯한 말로 구슬려대자 결국 그 청년은 그녀의 유혹에 넘어가
22 곧 그 여자를 따라갔으니 소가 도살장으로 가는 것 같고 사슴이 올가미 속으로 뛰어들어가는 것 같았다.
23 결국 화살이 그의 심장을 꿰뚫고 말 것이다. 그는 세차게 그물을 향해 날아가면서도 자기 생명의 위험을 알지 못하는 새와 같은 자였다.
24 내 아들들아, 내가 하는 말에 귀를 기울이고 주의 깊게 들어라.
25 너희는 그런 여자에게 마음을 쏟지 말고 그 길에 미혹되지 말아라.
26 많은 사람들이 그녀에게 희생되었고 그녀에게 죽은 자도 수없이 많다.
27 너희가 그런 여자의 집을 찾아다니는 것은 [a]지옥행 급행 열차를 타는 것이나 다름없다.

Warning Against the Adulterous Woman
7 My son,(A) keep my words
and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live;(B)
guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.(C)
4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and to insight, “You are my relative.”
5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.(D)
6 At the window of my house
I looked down through the lattice.
7 I saw among the simple,
I noticed among the young men,
a youth who had no sense.(E)
8 He was going down the street near her corner,
walking along in the direction of her house
9 at twilight,(F) as the day was fading,
as the dark of night set in.
10 Then out came a woman to meet him,
dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
11 (She is unruly(G) and defiant,
her feet never stay at home;
12 now in the street, now in the squares,
at every corner she lurks.)(H)
13 She took hold of him(I) and kissed him
and with a brazen face she said:(J)
14 “Today I fulfilled my vows,
and I have food from my fellowship offering(K) at home.
15 So I came out to meet you;
I looked for you and have found you!
16 I have covered my bed
with colored linens from Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed(L)
with myrrh,(M) aloes and cinnamon.
18 Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning;
let’s enjoy ourselves with love!(N)
19 My husband is not at home;
he has gone on a long journey.
20 He took his purse filled with money
and will not be home till full moon.”
21 With persuasive words she led him astray;
she seduced him with her smooth talk.(O)
22 All at once he followed her
like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer[a] stepping into a noose[b](P)
23 till an arrow pierces(Q) his liver,
like a bird darting into a snare,
little knowing it will cost him his life.(R)
