15 부드러운 대답은 분노를 가라앉혀도 과격한 말은 분노를 일으킨다.
2 지혜 있는 자는 지식이 돋보이게 말하지만 미련한 자는 어리석은 말만 지껄여댄다.
3 여호와께서는 어디서든지 악한 사람과 선한 사람을 지켜 보신다.
4 따뜻하고 부드러운 말은 생명 나무와 같아도 잔인한 말은 사람의 마음을 상하게 한다.
5 자기 아버지의 가르침을 무시하는 사람은 미련한 자요 자기 아버지가 타이를 때 듣는 사람은 슬기로운 자이다.
6 의로운 사람의 집에는 보물이 많아도 악인의 소득에는 문젯거리가 많다.
7 지혜로운 사람은 지식을 전하지만 미련한 사람은 그렇지 못하다.
8 여호와께서 악인의 제사는 미워하셔도 정직한 사람의 기도는 기뻐하신다.
9 여호와께서 악인의 길은 미워하셔도 의를 추구하는 사람은 사랑하신다.
10 진리를 저버리는 자는 엄한 벌을 받을 것이며 책망할 때 듣지 않는 자는 죽게 될 것이다.
11 [a]지옥의 깊은 곳도 여호와 앞에 드러나는데 사람이 어찌 자기 생각을 여호와께 숨길 수 있겠는가!
12 거만한 사람은 책망받기를 싫어하며 지혜로운 사람에게 찾아가지 않는다.
13 마음의 즐거움은 얼굴 표정을 밝게 하고 마음의 근심은 심령을 상하게 한다.
14 지혜로운 자는 지식을 추구하지만 미련한 자는 어리석음을 즐긴다.
15 고통당하는 자의 삶은 비참하나 마음에 기쁨을 가진 자는 항상 즐겁기만 하다.
16 가난하지만 여호와를 두려운 마음으로 섬기는 것이 부유하면서도 늘 번민 속에 사는 것보다 낫다.
17 채소를 먹어도 서로 사랑하는 것이 살진 소를 먹으면서 서로 미워하는 것보다 낫다.
18 성미가 급한 사람은 다툼을 일으켜도 좀처럼 화를 내지 않는 사람은 시비를 그치게 한다.
19 게으른 자의 길은 가시밭과 같고 정직한 자의 길은 고속 도로와 같다.
20 지혜로운 아들은 자기 아버지를 즐겁게 하여도 미련한 아들은 자기 어머니를 업신여긴다.
21 무지한 사람은 어리석음을 좋아하지만 지혜 있는 자는 바른 길을 걷는다.
22 조언을 해 주는 사람이 없으면 계획한 일이 실패하여도 조언을 해 주는 사람이 많으면 계획한 일이 성공한다.
23 대답 한마디 잘해서 사람이 기쁨을 얻는 일은 얼마든지 있다. 제때에 적절한 말을 한다는 것이 얼마나 귀한 일인가!
24 지혜로운 사람은 위에 있는 생명의 길을 향하므로 아래 있는 [b]지옥을 떠나게 된다.
25 여호와는 교만한 자의 집을 허시고 과부의 재산은 보호하신다.
26 여호와께서 악인의 생각은 미워하셔도 [c]마음이 순결한 사람의 생각은 기뻐하신다.
27 부정 이득을 탐하는 자는 자기 가족에게 해를 끼치지만 뇌물을 싫어하는 자는 살 것이다.
28 의로운 사람은 대답할 말을 깊이 생각하여도 악인은 악한 말을 마구 내뱉는다.
29 여호와께서 악인은 멀리하시지만 의로운 사람의 기도는 들으신다.
30 밝은 표정은 마음을 기쁘게 하고 기쁜 소식은 건강에 좋다.
31 좋은 책망을 들을 줄 아는 사람은 지혜로운 자이다.
32 타이르는 말을 무시하는 것은 자기 자신을 멸시하는 것이지만 책망을 달게 받으면 깨달음을 얻는다.
33 여호와를 두려워하면 지혜를 얻는다. [d]사람은 영예를 얻기에 앞서 먼저 겸손해야 한다.

5 A fool spurns a parent’s discipline,
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.(K)
6 The house of the righteous contains great treasure,(L)
but the income of the wicked brings ruin.(M)
7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge,(N)
but the hearts of fools are not upright.
10 Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path;
the one who hates correction will die.(T)
12 Mockers resent correction,(W)
so they avoid the wise.
14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge,(Z)
but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched,
but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.(AA)
16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord
than great wealth with turmoil.(AB)
17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love
than a fattened calf with hatred.(AC)
19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns,(AF)
but the path of the upright is a highway.
20 A wise son brings joy to his father,(AG)
but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,(AH)
but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.
24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent
to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead.
25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud,(AN)
but he sets the widow’s boundary stones in place.(AO)
26 The Lord detests the thoughts(AP) of the wicked,(AQ)
but gracious words are pure(AR) in his sight.
27 The greedy bring ruin to their households,
but the one who hates bribes will live.(AS)
29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous.(AV)
30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.(AW)
31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
will be at home among the wise.(AX)

15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
