죄와 고백과 구원
59 여호와께서 능력이 부족하여 너희를 구원하지 못하는 것이 아니며 귀가 둔하여 너희 부르짖는 소리를 듣지 못하는 것이 아니다.
2 너희 죄가 너희를 하나님과 분리시켜 놓았기 때문에 그가 너희를 외면하고 너희 부르짖음에 귀를 기울이시지 않는 것이다.
3 너희 손은 피로 물들었고 너희 손가락은 죄로 더러워졌으며 너희 입술은 거짓을 말하고 너희 혀는 악한 것을 내뱉고 있다.
4 또 공정하고 정당한 방법으로 소송하는 자가 없으며 거짓말하고 악한 음모를 꾸며 상대방을 해치고 있다.
5-6 너희가 꾸미는 악한 음모는 독사의 알 처럼 치명적이다. 그 알을 밟아 보아라. 거기서 독사가 나올 것이다. 거미줄로 옷을 짤 수 없듯이 너희 악한 행위와 계획은 아무 쓸모가 없을 것이다.
7 너희가 항상 악한 것을 계획하여 그것을 신속히 행하며 죄 없는 사람을 살해하는 데 주저하지 않으니 너희가 가는 곳마다 황폐와 파멸이 뒤따를 것이다.
8 너희는 참된 평안이 무엇인지 모르며 정의와 진리가 무엇을 뜻하는지도 알지 못하고 계속 잘못된 길을 가고 있다. 그러므로 너희를 따르는 자들은 결코 평안을 누리지 못할 것이다.
9 [a]백성들이 말한다. “이제야 우리는 하나님이 우리를 괴롭히는 자에게서 구원하시지 않는 이유를 알 것 같다. 우리가 빛을 기대하지만 어두움뿐이구나.
10 그래서 우리가 소경처럼 더듬고 다니며 대낮에도 캄캄한 밤처럼 넘어지니 건장한 사람 가운데 있으면서도 우리가 죽은 자같이 되었다.
11 우리가 곰처럼 부르짖고 비둘기처럼 슬피 울며 하나님이 우리를 구해 주시기를 바라나 아무 일도 일어나지 않고 있다.
12 “여호와여, 주 앞에 우리의 허물이 많습니다. 우리 죄가 우리에게 대하여 증거하니 우리가 주께 범죄한 것을 인정합니다.
13 우리는 주를 배반하고 거역하였으며 주를 따르기를 거절하였습니다. 우리가 다른 사람들을 괴롭히고 악한 것을 생각하며 거짓말을 하였습니다.
14 그래서 우리 주변에는 공정과 정의와 진실과 정직이 사라졌습니다.
15 이처럼 어느 곳에서도 진실을 찾아볼 수 없게 되었으므로 악을 피하는 자들이 오히려 희생되고 있습니다.” 여호와께서는 이것을 보시고 정의가 없는 것을 기뻐하지 않으시며
16 자기 백성을 도와줄 사람이 없는 것을 보시고 놀라셨다. 그러므로 그가 직접 자기 능력과 의로 그들을 구하실 것이다.
17 그가 의를 갑옷처럼 입으시고 구원의 투구를 쓰시며 복수와 [b]의분의 옷을 입으실 것이다. 그가 자기 원수들에게 분노하셔서
18 그들이 행한 대로 갚아 주실 것이며 먼 땅에 사는 대적들에게 보복하실 것이다.
19 여호와께서 세차게 흐르는 강물과 강한 바람처럼 오실 것이므로 동서 사방에 있는 모든 사람들이 그의 이름과 위대한 능력을 두려워할 것이다.
20 여호와께서 말씀하신다. “구원자가 시온에 올 것이니 이스라엘 백성 가운데 죄를 떠나는 사람들에게 찾아올 것이다.
21 그리고 내가 그들과 맺는 계약은 이것이다. ‘내가 너희에게 준 내 성령과 말이 너희와 너희 후손들의 입에서 영원히 떠나지 않을 것이다.’ 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.”

Sin, Confession and Redemption
59 Surely the arm(A) of the Lord is not too short(B) to save,
nor his ear too dull to hear.(C)
2 But your iniquities have separated(D)
you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you,
so that he will not hear.(E)
3 For your hands are stained with blood,(F)
your fingers with guilt.(G)
Your lips have spoken falsely,(H)
and your tongue mutters wicked things.
4 No one calls for justice;(I)
no one pleads a case with integrity.
They rely(J) on empty arguments, they utter lies;(K)
they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.(L)
5 They hatch the eggs of vipers(M)
and spin a spider’s web.(N)
Whoever eats their eggs will die,
and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.
6 Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
they cannot cover themselves with what they make.(O)
Their deeds are evil deeds,
and acts of violence(P) are in their hands.
7 Their feet rush into sin;
they are swift to shed innocent blood.(Q)
They pursue evil schemes;(R)
acts of violence mark their ways.(S)
8 The way of peace they do not know;(T)
there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;(U)
no one who walks along them will know peace.(V)
9 So justice is far from us,
and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness;(W)
for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
10 Like the blind(X) we grope along the wall,
feeling our way like people without eyes.
At midday we stumble(Y) as if it were twilight;
among the strong, we are like the dead.(Z)
11 We all growl like bears;
we moan mournfully like doves.(AA)
We look for justice, but find none;
for deliverance, but it is far away.
12 For our offenses(AB) are many in your sight,
and our sins testify(AC) against us.
Our offenses are ever with us,
and we acknowledge our iniquities:(AD)
13 rebellion(AE) and treachery against the Lord,
turning our backs(AF) on our God,
inciting revolt and oppression,(AG)
uttering lies(AH) our hearts have conceived.
14 So justice(AI) is driven back,
and righteousness(AJ) stands at a distance;
truth(AK) has stumbled in the streets,
honesty cannot enter.
15 Truth(AL) is nowhere to be found,
and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.
The Lord looked and was displeased
that there was no justice.(AM)
16 He saw that there was no one,(AN)
he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;(AO)
so his own arm achieved salvation(AP) for him,
and his own righteousness(AQ) sustained him.
17 He put on righteousness as his breastplate,(AR)
and the helmet(AS) of salvation on his head;
he put on the garments(AT) of vengeance(AU)
and wrapped himself in zeal(AV) as in a cloak.
18 According to what they have done,
so will he repay(AW)
wrath to his enemies
and retribution to his foes;
he will repay the islands(AX) their due.
19 From the west,(AY) people will fear the name of the Lord,
and from the rising of the sun,(AZ) they will revere his glory.(BA)
For he will come like a pent-up flood
that the breath(BB) of the Lord drives along.[a]
20 “The Redeemer(BC) will come to Zion,(BD)
to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,”(BE)
declares the Lord.
21 “As for me, this is my covenant(BF) with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit,(BG) who is on you, will not depart from you,(BH) and my words that I have put in your mouth(BI) will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.
