4 І знову почав Він навчати над морем. І зібралось до Нього багато народу, так що Сам Він до човна на морі ввійшов і сидів, а народ увесь був на землі покрай моря.
2 І багато навчав Він їх притчами, і в науці Своїй їм казав:
3 Слухайте, вийшов сіяч ось, щоб сіяти.
4 І як сіяв, упало зерно одне край дороги, і налетіли пташки, і його повидзьобували.
5 Друге ж упало на ґрунт кам'янистий, де не мало багато землі, і негайно зійшло, бо земля неглибока була;
6 а як сонце зійшло то зів'яло, і, коріння не мавши, усохло.
7 А інше впало між терен, і вигнався терен, і його поглушив, і плоду воно не дало.
8 Інше ж упало на добрую землю, і дало плід, що посходив і ріс; і видало втридцятеро, у шістдесят і в сто раз.
9 І сказав: Хто має вуха, щоб слухати, нехай слухає!
10 І, як остався Він насамоті, Його запитали найближчі з Дванадцятьма про цю притчу.
11 І Він їм відповів: Вам дано пізнати таємниці Божого Царства, а тим, що за вами, усе відбувається в притчах,
12 щоб оком дивились вони і не бачили, вухом слухали і не зрозуміли, щоб коли вони не навернулися, і відпущені будуть гріхи їм!
13 І Він їх запитав: Ви не розумієте притчі цієї? І як вам зрозуміти всі притчі!
14 Сіяч сіє слово.
15 А котрі край дороги, де сіється слово, це ті, що як тільки почують, то зараз приходить до них сатана, і забирає слово, посіяне в них.
16 Так само й посіяні на кам'янистому ґрунті, вони, як почують те слово, то з радістю зараз приймають його,
17 та коріння не мають у собі й непостійні; а згодом, як утиск або переслідування наступає за слово, вони спокушаються зараз.
18 А між терен посіяне, це ті, що слухають слово,
19 але клопоти цьогосвітні й омана багатства та різні бажання ввіходять, та й заглушують слово, і плоду воно не дає.
20 А посіяне в добрую землю це ті, що слухають слово й приймають, і родять утридцятеро, у шістдесят і в сто раз.
21 І сказав Він до них: Чи світильника приносять на те, щоб поставити його під посудину, чи може під ліжко? А не щоб поставити на свічнику?
22 Бо немає нічого захованого, що не виявиться, і немає таємного, що не вийде наяв.
23 Хто має вуха, щоб слухати, нехай слухає!
24 І сказав Він до них: Уважайте, що чуєте: Якою мірою будете міряти, такою відміряють вам, і додадуть вам.
25 Бо хто має, то дасться йому, хто ж не має, забереться від нього й те, що він має.
26 І сказав Він: Так і Боже Царство, як той чоловік, що кидає в землю насіння,
27 і чи спить, чи встає він удень та вночі, а насіння пускає паростки та росте, хоч не знає він, як.
28 Бо родить земля сама з себе: перше вруна, потім колос, а тоді повне збіжжя на колосі.
29 А коли плід доспіє, зараз він посилає серпа, бо настали жнива.
30 І сказав Він: До чого прирівняємо Царство Боже? Або в якій притчі представим його?
31 Воно як те зерно гірчичне, яке, коли сіється в землю, найдрібніше за всі земні насіння.
32 Як посіяне ж буде, виростає, і стає над усі зілля більше, і віття пускає велике таке, що кублитись може в тіні його птаство небесне.
33 І такими притчами багатьома Він їм слово звіщав, поскільки вони могли слухати.
34 І без притчі нічого Він їм не казав, а учням Своїм самотою вияснював усе.
35 І сказав Він до них того дня, коли вечір настав: Переплиньмо на той бік.
36 І, лишивши народ, узяли із собою Його, як у човні Він був; і інші човни були з Ним.
37 І знялася ось буря велика, а хвилі вливалися в човен, аж човен водою вже був переповнився!
38 А Він спав на кормі на подушці... І вони розбудили Його та й сказали Йому: Учителю, чи Тобі байдуже, що ми гинемо?...
39 Тоді Він устав, і вітрові заборонив, і до моря сказав: Мовчи, перестань! І стих вітер, і тиша велика настала...
40 І сказав Він до них: Чого ви такі полохливі? Чому віри не маєте?
41 А вони налякалися страхом великим, і говорили один до одного: Хто ж це такий, що вітер і море слухняні Йому?

Притча про сіяча
(Мт. 13:1-9; Лк. 8:4-8)
4 Одного разу, коли Ісус проповідував біля озера, навколо Нього зібрався величезний натовп. Тому Він увійшов у човен і сів там, а люди залишилися на березі. 2 Він багато чого навчав їх, розмовляючи притчами.
3 Він сказав: «Послухайте! Вийшов селянин і заходився сіяти. 4 Коли він кинув на ріллю зерно, то деяке впало край дороги; налетіли птахи і склювали його. 5 Інші зерна впали на кам’янистий ґрунт, де землі було мало. Вони швидко проросли, оскільки лежали неглибоко, 6 та коли зійшло сонце, то обпекло паростки, і вони засохли, бо не мали глибокого коріння. 7 Інші зерна впали серед теренів, що вигналися й задушили паростки, і ті не дали врожаю. 8 Ще інше зерно впало на добру землю й проросло, і вродило у тридцятеро, шістдесят та навіть у сто разів більше від посіяного». 9 Потім Він додав: «Той, хто має вуха, нехай почує!»
Чому Ісус навчав за допомогою притч
(Мт. 13:10-17; Лк. 8:9-10)
10 Коли натовп залишив Ісуса, то дванадцять апостолів та інші Його послідовники запитали Його про притчі. 11-12 І Він їм сказав: «Тільки вам дано знати таємниці Царства Божого, а для всіх інших вони скриваються в притчах:
бо вони дивилися, дивилися, але не бачили,
бо вони слухали, слухали, але не розуміли,
а інакше навернулися й були б прощені».(A)
Пояснення притчі про сіяча
(Мт. 13:18-23; Лк. 8:11-15)
13 Ісус сказав учням Своїм: «Хіба ви не зрозуміли цієї притчі? Якщо ви не зрозуміли цієї, як же ви зрозумієте інші притчі? 14 Сіяч сіє Слово Боже в людях. 15 Одні люди, як ті зерна при дорозі, де Слово посіяне. Як тільки вони чують його, з’являється сатана і віднімає посіяне в них Слово.
16 Інші люди, як зерна, посіяні у кам’янистий ґрунт: коли вони чують Слово, то одразу й з радістю сприймають його. 17 Але вони не мають міцного коріння, і їх вистачає ненадовго. Коли починаються гоніння чи переслідування через Слово, вони швидко зрікаються своєї віри.
18-19 Зерно, що впало серед теренів—це ті, хто чують Слово, але щоденні турботи, спокуса багатства, та інші бажання душать Слово, і воно не дає плодів[a].
20 Іще інші—зерно, що було посіяне в добру землю. Це ті, хто чують Слово, приймають його і приносять щедрий врожай: у тридцятеро, шістдесят та навіть у сто разів більший від посіяного».
Не приховуйте світла
(Лк. 8:16-18)
21 І сказав їм Ісус: «Звичайно, ви заносите в приміщення світильник не для того, щоб поставити його під перевернуту посудину або під ліжко, а для того, щоб поставити його на підставку. 22 Адже немає нічого прихованого, що не відкрилося б, і немає нічого таємного, що не стане відомим. 23 Той, хто має вуха, нехай почує!» 24 І далі Він сказав: «Будьте уважні й обмірковуйте те, що ви чуєте. Господь Всевишній надасть вам розуміння згідно з тим, скільки розуміння в вас зараз є. Та будьте впевнені, Він надасть вам більше, ніж ви заслуговуєте. 25 Бо хто має розуміння, тому додасться ще більше, а хто не має, в того відніметься і той дріб’язок, що йому належить».
Про Царство Боже
26 Потім Ісус сказав: «Царство Боже подібно чоловіку, який висіває в землю зерно. 27 Чоловік спить чи прокидається, а у цей час зерно пускає пагони і росте днями й ночами—як, він навіть сам не знає. 28 Земля сама творить зерно: спершу стеблину, потім суцвіття, і нарешті—повен колос. 29 Коли збіжжя визріває, чоловік негайно береться за серп, бо настали жнива».
Притча про гірчичне зерно
(Мт. 13:31-32, 34-35; Лк. 13:18-19)
30 Ісус мовив: «З чим порівняти Царство Боже? Яку притчу Мені розповісти? 31 Царство Боже подібне до гірчичного зернятка. Воно є найменшою зерниною, яку у землю висівають. 32 Та коли воно пускає паросток і виростає, то стає найбільшою рослиною серед усієї городини з такими розлогими гілками, що навіть птахи можуть гніздитися в її затінку».
33 Багатьма притчами на зразок цієї Ісус доносив Слово до людей—стільки, скільки могли вони зрозуміти. 34 Ісус завжди говорив притчами до людей, але тільки тоді, коли учні Його зоставалися самі, Він усе їм пояснював.
Ісус вгамовує бурю
(Мт. 8:23-27; Лк. 8:22-25)
35 Увечері того дня Ісус сказав Своїм учням: «Нумо, перепливемо на інший берег озера!» 36 Вони залишили натовп й сіли у човен, де вже знаходився Ісус. Інші човни послідували за ними.
37 Та налетів штормовий вітер, хвилі перехлюпували через борт, й човен уже був майже повен води. 38 Але Ісус на кормі спав собі на подушці. Вони збудили Його й кажуть: «Вчителю, невже тобі байдуже, що ми гинемо?» 39 Тоді Ісус прокинувся і наказав вітру й хвилям: «Тихо! Заспокойтеся!» Тоді ж вітер вгамувався, і на озері запала велика тиша. 40 І звернувся Він до учнів Своїх: «Чого ви злякалися, маловіри?» 41 Але вони були страшенно налякані й питали один одного: «Хто ж це Такий, що навіть вітер й води підкоряються Йому?»

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
14 The sower soweth the word.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
