18 Ènìyàn tí kò ba ni rẹ́ a máa lépa ìmọ̀ ara rẹ̀;
ó kọjú ìjà sí gbogbo ìdájọ́ òdodo.

Aláìgbọ́n kò rí inú dídùn sí òye
ṣùgbọ́n ó ní inú dídùn sí sísọ èrò tirẹ̀.

Nígbà ti ènìyàn búburú dé ni ẹ̀gàn dé,
    nígbà ti ẹ̀gàn dé ni ìtìjú dé.

Ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu ènìyàn jẹ́ omi jíjìn,
ṣùgbọ́n orísun ọgbọ́n jẹ́ odò tí ń sàn.

Kò dára kí ènìyàn ṣe ojúsàájú fún ènìyàn búburú
tàbí kí a fi ìdájọ́ òdodo du aláìṣẹ̀.

Ètè aláìgbọ́n dá ìjà sílẹ̀
ẹnu rẹ̀ sì ń ṣokùnfà ẹgba.

Ẹnu aláìgbọ́n ni ó ba tirẹ̀ jẹ́
ètè rẹ̀ sì jẹ́ ìdẹ̀kùn fún ọkàn rẹ̀.

Ọ̀rọ̀ olófòófó dàbí oúnjẹ àdídùn

11 Ọ̀rọ̀ olówó ni ìlú olódi wọn
wọ́n rò ó bí i wí pé odi tí kò ṣe é gùn ni.

12 Ṣáájú ìṣubú ọkàn ènìyàn a kọ́kọ́ máa gbéraga
ṣùgbọ́n ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ ni ó máa ń ṣáájú ọlá.

13 Ẹni tí ó ń fèsì kí ó tó gbọ́,
èyí ni ìwà òmùgọ̀ àti ìtìjú rẹ̀.

14 Ọkàn ènìyàn a máa gbé e ró nígbà àìsàn
ṣùgbọ́n ta ni ó le forí ti ọkàn tí ó rẹ̀wẹ̀sì.

15 Ọkàn olóye ní i gba ìmọ̀;
etí ọlọ́gbọ́n ní í ṣe àwárí rẹ̀.

16 Ẹ̀bùn máa ń ṣí ọ̀nà fún ẹni tí ń fún ni lẹ́bùn
a sì mú un wọlé sí ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn olókìkí.

17 Ẹni tí ó kọ́kọ́ rọjọ́ máa ń dàbí i pé ó jàre
títí ẹlòmíràn yóò fi bọ́ síwájú kí ó sì tú àṣírí gbogbo.

18 Ìbò dídì máa ń parí ìjà
    a sì mú kí àwọn alátakò méjì jìnnà sí ara wọn.

19 Arákùnrin tí a ṣẹ̀ sí ṣòro yípadà ju ìlú olódi lọ,
ìjà wọ sì dàbí ọ̀pá ìdábùú ààfin.

20 Láti inú èso ẹnu rẹ̀ ikùn ènìyàn a yó;
láti inú ìkórè ẹnu rẹ̀ ni ó ti jẹ yó.

21 Ikú àti ìyè ń bẹ nípa ahọ́n wọn,
àwọn tí ó sì fẹ́ràn rẹ̀ yóò jẹ ẹ́.

22 Ẹni tí ó rí aya fẹ́, rí ohun rere,
o sì gba ojúrere lọ́dọ̀ Olúwa.

23 Tálákà ń bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún àánú,
ṣùgbọ́n ọlọ́rọ̀ a dáhùn pẹ̀lú ìkanra.

24 Ènìyàn tí ó ní ọ̀rẹ́ púpọ̀ le è parun
ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rẹ́ kan wà tí ó súnmọ́ ni tímọ́tímọ́ ju arákùnrin.

18 An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends
    and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.

Fools find no pleasure in understanding
    but delight in airing their own opinions.(A)

When wickedness comes, so does contempt,
    and with shame comes reproach.

The words of the mouth are deep waters,(B)
    but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.

It is not good to be partial to the wicked(C)
    and so deprive the innocent of justice.(D)

The lips of fools bring them strife,
    and their mouths invite a beating.(E)

The mouths of fools are their undoing,
    and their lips are a snare(F) to their very lives.(G)

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
    they go down to the inmost parts.(H)

One who is slack in his work
    is brother to one who destroys.(I)

10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;(J)
    the righteous run to it and are safe.(K)

11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;(L)
    they imagine it a wall too high to scale.

12 Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
    but humility comes before honor.(M)

13 To answer before listening—
    that is folly and shame.(N)

14 The human spirit can endure in sickness,
    but a crushed spirit who can bear?(O)

15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,(P)
    for the ears of the wise seek it out.

16 A gift(Q) opens the way
    and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.

17 In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right,
    until someone comes forward and cross-examines.

18 Casting the lot settles disputes(R)
    and keeps strong opponents apart.

19 A brother wronged(S) is more unyielding than a fortified city;
    disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.

20 From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
    with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.(T)

21 The tongue has the power of life and death,(U)
    and those who love it will eat its fruit.(V)

22 He who finds a wife finds what is good(W)
    and receives favor from the Lord.(X)

23 The poor plead for mercy,
    but the rich answer harshly.

24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
    but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.(Y)
