³ he is to abstain^[a] from wine and beer.^(A) He must not drink vinegar made from wine or from beer. He must not drink any grape juice or eat fresh grapes or raisins.

³ The Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are unable to conceive and have no children, but you will conceive and give birth to a son. ⁴ Now please be careful not to drink wine or beer,^(A) or to eat anything unclean;^{(B) 5} for indeed, you will conceive and give birth to a son. You must never cut his hair,^[a] because the boy will be a Nazirite^(C) to God from birth, and he will begin to save Israel from the power of the Philistines.”

¹⁸ For John did not come eating or drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’^(A)

³³ For John the Baptist did not come eating bread or drinking wine,^(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon!’
