These two things are come unto thee—who shall be sorry for thee?” desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword” by whom shall I comfort thee?
These two things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword; how shall I comfort thee?
These two tragedies have befallen you; Who will show sympathy for you and mourn with you? The desolation and destruction [on the land and city], famine and sword [on the inhabitants]; How shall I comfort you?
Two kinds of calamities have befallen you—but who feels sorry for and commiserates you?—they are desolation and destruction [on the land and city], and famine and sword [on the inhabitants]—how shall I comfort you or by whom?
These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?
These two things have happened to you: devastation and destruction, famine and sword. Who will grieve for you? How can I comfort you?
These two things have happened to you— Who will be sorry for you?— destruction and devastation, famine and sword— who will comfort you?
These two disasters have overcome you — yet who will grieve with you? — plunder and destruction, famine and sword; by whom can I comfort you?
You have been destroyed by war and by famine; I cannot comfort you.
These two [things] are come unto thee; who will bemoan thee?—desolation and destruction, and famine and sword: how shall I comfort thee?

Troubles came to you, Jerusalem, in pairs: Your land was destroyed and lies in ruins, and your people suffered from famine and war. But no one felt sorry for you or showed you mercy.
War and famine have destroyed you. Both those terrible things have happened to you. Who feels sorry for you? Who is there to comfort you?
Those two things are happening to you. Who will grieve for you? Devastation and destruction and famine and sword! Who will comfort you?
These two things have happened to you— who will console you?— devastation and destruction, famine and sword; who will comfort you?

Twice as many disasters have happened to you. Who will feel sorry for you? Violence, destruction, famine, and war have happened to you. Who will comfort you?
A double disaster has fallen on you: your land has been devastated by war, and your people have starved. There is no one to show you sympathy.
These two things have happened to you: devastation and destruction, famine and sword. Who will grieve for you? How can I comfort you?

So wake up! Rub the sleep from your eyes! Up on your feet, Jerusalem! You’ve drunk the cup God handed you, the strong drink of his anger. You drank it down to the last drop, staggered and collapsed, dead-drunk. And nobody to help you home, no one among your friends or children to take you by the hand and put you in bed. You’ve been hit with a double dose of trouble —does anyone care? Assault and battery, hunger and death —will anyone comfort? Your sons and daughters have passed out, strewn in the streets like stunned rabbits, Sleeping off the strong drink of God’s anger, the rage of your God.
These two things have befallen you; who shall be mournful for you? Desolation, and destruction, and famine, and sword— how shall I comfort you?
