Names for the Word of God

The Bible has a number of names for itself, and reading them might be confusing if you’re not familiar with them. Here’s a list of the names the Bible uses to reference itself and a few passages for each to give you context.

  • Law of the Lord (Ps. 1:2, 19:7)
  • Lively (living) Oracles (words) (Acts 7:38)
  • Message of Christ (Colossians 3:16)
  • Oracles of God (Rom. 3:2; Heb. 5:12; I Pet. 4:11)
  • Promises (Rom. 9:4-5; 15:8)
