And do not (A)be conformed to (B)this [a]world, but be transformed by the (C)renewing of your mind, so that you may [b](D)prove what the will of God is, that which is good and [c]acceptable and perfect.

(A)so as to live (B)the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the (C)will of God. For (D)the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, [a](E)having pursued a course of indecent behavior, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries. In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them in the same excesses of (F)[b]debauchery, and they (G)slander you; but they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge (H)the living and the dead. For (I)the gospel has for this purpose been [c]preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as people, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.

(J)The end of all things [d]is near; therefore, (K)be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of [e]prayer. Above all, (L)keep fervent in your love for one another, because (M)love covers a multitude of sins. (N)Be hospitable to one another without (O)complaint. 10 (P)As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good (Q)stewards of the [f]multifaceted grace of God. 11 (R)Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking (S)actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving [g](T)by the strength which God supplies; so that (U)in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, (V)to whom belongs the glory and [h]dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Share the Sufferings of Christ

12 (W)Beloved, do not be surprised at the (X)fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though something strange were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you (Y)share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that at the (Z)revelation of His glory (AA)you may also rejoice and be overjoyed. 14 If you are insulted [i](AB)for the name of Christ, (AC)you are blessed, (AD)because the Spirit of glory, and of God, rests upon you. 15 Make sure that (AE)none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a [j](AF)troublesome meddler; 16 but if anyone suffers as a (AG)Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to (AH)glorify God in this name. 17 For it is time for judgment (AI)to begin [k]with (AJ)the household of God; and if it (AK)begins [l]with us first, what will be the outcome for those (AL)who do not obey the (AM)gospel of God? 18 (AN)And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, [m]what will become of the (AO)godless man and the sinner? 19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to (AP)the will of God are to entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires,(A) but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past(B) doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.(C) They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.(D) But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.(E) For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead,(F) so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

The end of all things is near.(G) Therefore be alert and of sober mind(H) so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply,(I) because love covers over a multitude of sins.(J) Offer hospitality(K) to one another without grumbling.(L) 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,(M) as faithful(N) stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.(O) If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides,(P) so that in all things God may be praised(Q) through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.(R)

Suffering for Being a Christian

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you(S) to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice(T) inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,(U) so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.(V) 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ,(W) you are blessed,(X) for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.(Y) 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household;(Z) and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?(AA) 18 And,

“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”[a](AB)

19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will(AC) should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
