⁴ I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
And to the wicked, ‘^(A)Do not lift up the horn;
⁵ Do not lift up your horn on high,
^(B)Do not speak with insolent ^[a]pride.’”

¹⁴ Therefore, ^(A)hear the word of the Lord, you ^(B)scoffers,
Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem,
¹⁵ Because you have said, “We have made a ^(C)covenant with death,
And with ^[a]Sheol we have made a ^[b]pact.
^(D)The ^[c]gushing flood will not reach us when it passes by,
Because we have made ^(E)falsehood our refuge and we have ^(F)concealed ourselves with deception.”
