²⁸ For the Lord loves the just
    and will not forsake his faithful ones.^(A)

Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed^[a];
    the offspring of the wicked will perish.^(B)

⁴ Woe to the sinful nation,
    a people whose guilt is great,^(A)
a brood of evildoers,^(B)
    children given to corruption!^(C)
They have forsaken^(D) the Lord;
    they have spurned the Holy One^(E) of Israel
    and turned their backs^(F) on him.

²⁰     you will not join them in burial,^(A)
for you have destroyed your land
    and killed your people.

Let the offspring^(B) of the wicked^(C)
    never be mentioned^(D) again.

³⁰ This is what the Lord says:
“Record this man as if childless,^(A)
    a man who will not prosper^(B) in his lifetime,
for none of his offspring^(C) will prosper,
    none will sit on the throne^(D) of David
    or rule anymore in Judah.”
