⁴⁰ How often they rebelled^(A) against him in the wilderness^(B)
    and grieved him^(C) in the wasteland!

⁷ When our ancestors were in Egypt,
    they gave no thought^(A) to your miracles;
they did not remember^(B) your many kindnesses,
    and they rebelled by the sea,^(C) the Red Sea.^[a]

¹¹ because they rebelled^(A) against God’s commands
    and despised^(B) the plans^(C) of the Most High.
