⁹I was silent;^(A) I would not open my mouth,^(B)
for you are the one who has done this.^(C)

⁹I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

³⁴because I so feared the crowd^(A)
and so dreaded the contempt of the clans
that I kept silent^(B) and would not go outside—

³⁴Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

⁴You kept my eyes from closing;
I was too troubled to speak.^(A)

⁴Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
