¹⁷ Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said to them, “Go up into ^(A)the Negeb and go up into ^(B)the hill country,

^29 (A)The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. ^(B)And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”

⁹ And afterwards the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in ^(A)the hill country, in the Negeb, and in ^(B)the lowland.

^19 (A)And the Lord was with Judah, and he took possession of the ^(B)hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain because they had ^(C)chariots of iron.
