19 When anyone hears (A)the [a]word of the kingdom and does not understand it, (B)the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one sown with seed beside the road.

13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him (A)who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because (B)you have overcome (C)the evil one. I have written to you, children, because (D)you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him (E)who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are (F)strong, and the (G)word of God remains in you, and (H)you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

15 Do not love (I)the world nor the things in the world. (J)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, (K)the lust of the flesh and (L)the lust of the eyes and (M)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 (N)The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who (O)does the will of God continues to live forever.

18 Children, (P)it is the last hour; and just as you heard that (Q)antichrist is coming, (R)even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 (S)They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, (T)so that [a]it would be evident that they all are not of us. 20 [b]But you have an (U)anointing from (V)the Holy One, and (W)you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but (X)because you do know it, and [c]because no lie is (Y)of the truth. 22 Who is the liar except (Z)the one who denies that Jesus is the [d]Christ? This is (AA)the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 (AB)Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, see that what you heard (AC)from the beginning remains in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also (AD)will remain in the Son and in the Father.

The Promise Is Eternal Life

25 (AE)This is the promise which He Himself [e]made to us: eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to (AF)deceive you. 27 And as for you, the (AG)anointing which you received from Him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing (AH)teaches you about all things, and is (AI)true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, [f]you remain in Him.

28 Now, (AJ)little children, remain in Him, so that when He (AK)appears, we may have (AL)confidence and (AM)not [g]draw back from Him in shame [h]at His (AN)coming. 29 If you know that (AO)He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness also (AP)has been born of Him.

18 (A)We know that (B)no one who has been born of God [a]sins; but He who was born of God (C)keeps him, and (D)the evil one does not (E)touch him. 19 (F)We know that (G)we are of God, and that (H)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And (I)we know that (J)the Son of God has come, and has (K)given us understanding so that we may know (L)Him who is true; and we (M)are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. (N)This is the true God and (O)eternal life.

21 (P)Little children, guard yourselves from (Q)idols.
