¹⁰ So the disciples questioned Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”^(A)

¹⁵ But others said, “He’s Elijah.”^(A) Still others said, “He’s a prophet^[a]—like one of the prophets.”^(B)

⁸ some that Elijah had appeared,^(A) and others that one of the ancient prophets had risen.^(B)

²¹ “What then?” they asked him. “Are you Elijah?”^(A)

“I am not,” he said.

“Are you the Prophet?”^[a](B)

“No,” he answered.
