² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful^(A) to do on the Sabbath!”

⁴ Then He said to them, “Is it lawful^(A) on the Sabbath to do what is good^(B) or to do what is evil,^(C) to save life^(D) or to kill?”^(E) But they were silent.^(F)

² But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

⁹ Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to destroy it?”^(A)

¹⁴ But the leader of the synagogue, indignant^(A) because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, responded by telling the crowd, “There are six days when work should be done;^(B) therefore come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.”

¹⁰ so the Jews^(A) said to the man who had been healed, “This is the Sabbath!^(B) It’s illegal for you to pick up your mat.”
