His Death and Resurrection Predicted

²¹ From^(A) then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.^(B)

The Third Prediction of His Death

¹⁷ While going up to Jerusalem,^(A) Jesus took the 12 disciples aside privately and said to them on the way:

³¹ Then^(A) He began to teach them that the Son of Man^(B) must suffer many things and be rejected^(C) by the elders,^(D) the chief priests, and the scribes,^(E) be killed, and rise^(F) after three days.^(G)

The Second Prediction of His Death

³⁰ Then^(A) they left that place and made their way through Galilee, but He did not want anyone to know it.^{(B) 31} For He was teaching^(C) His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man^(D) is being betrayed^[a] into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after He is killed, He will rise^(E) three days later.”^{(F) 32} But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.^(G)

⁴⁴ “Let these words sink in:^[a] The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”^(A)

⁴⁵ But they did not understand this statement;^(B) it was concealed from them so that they could not grasp it,^(C) and they were afraid to ask Him about it.^[b]
