“But you ask,^(B) ‘How have you loved us?’

“Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet I have loved Jacob,^(C)

²I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,

³but Esau I have hated,^(A) and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland^(B) and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.^(C)”

³And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
