²⁷And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection; ²⁸and they asked him, saying, Teacher, ^[a]Moses wrote unto us, that if a man’s brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁹There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless;

The Resurrection and Marriage^(A)

²⁷Some of the Sadducees,^(B) who say there is no resurrection,^(C) came to Jesus with a question. ²⁸“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.^(D) ²⁹Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
