¹⁸ And he was very thirsty, and he called upon the Lord and said, ^(A)“You have granted this great salvation by the hand of your servant, and shall I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”

⁶ Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armour, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these ^(A)uncircumcised. It may be that the Lord will work for us, ^(B)for nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few.”

²⁶ And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away ^(A)the reproach from Israel? For who is this ^(B)uncircumcised Philistine, that he should ^(C)defy the armies of ^(D)the living God?”

³⁶ Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, ^(A)for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

^4 (A)Then Saul said to his armour bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these ^(B)uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armour bearer would not, ^(C)for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword ^(D)and fell upon it.
