⁸ and the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel. They defeated them and pursued them all the way to Greater Sidon,^(A) to Misrephoth Maim,^(B) and to the Valley of Mizpah on the east, until no survivors were left.

⁴⁹ It was also called Mizpah,^[a](A) because he said, “May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.

¹¹ So Jephthah went with the elders^(A) of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them. And he repeated^(B) all his words before the Lord in Mizpah.^(C)

The Israelites Punish the Benjamites

20 Then all Israel^(A) from Dan to Beersheba^(B) and from the land of Gilead came together as one^(C) and assembled^(D) before the Lord in Mizpah.^(E)

Wives for the Benjamites

21 The men of Israel had taken an oath^(A) at Mizpah:^(B) “Not one of us will give^(C) his daughter in marriage to a Benjamite.”

⁵ Then Samuel^(A) said, “Assemble all Israel at Mizpah,^(B) and I will intercede^(C) with the Lord for you.”

⁶ When they had assembled at Mizpah,^(A) they drew water and poured^(B) it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader^[a](C) of Israel at Mizpah.
