¹⁹ And when your people say, ^(A)‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, ^(B)so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’”

^9 (A)And they will answer, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and worshipped other gods and served them.”’”

²⁵ Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them.

^17 (A)Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore ^(B)my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.
