57 (A)I will make drunk her officials and her wise men,
    (B)her governors, her commanders, and her warriors;
they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake,
    declares (C)the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
58 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:
The broad (D)wall of Babylon
    shall be levelled to the ground,
(E)and her high gates
    shall be burned with fire.
(F)The peoples labour for nothing,
    and (G)the nations weary themselves only for fire.”

59 The word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah (H)the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, (I)in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was the quartermaster.

58 This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“Babylon’s thick wall(F) will be leveled
    and her high gates(G) set on fire;
the peoples(H) exhaust(I) themselves for nothing,
    the nations’ labor is only fuel for the flames.”(J)

59 This is the message Jeremiah the prophet gave to the staff officer Seraiah son of Neriah,(K) the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with Zedekiah(L) king of Judah in the fourth(M) year of his reign.
