⁶ The sword^(A) of the Lord is bathed in blood,
    it is covered with fat—
the blood of lambs and goats,
    fat from the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice^(B) in Bozrah^(C)
    and a great slaughter^(D) in the land of Edom.
⁷ And the wild oxen^(E) will fall with them,
    the bull calves and the great bulls.^(F)
Their land will be drenched with blood,^(G)
    and the dust will be soaked with fat.

⁸ For the Lord has a day^(H) of vengeance,^(I)
    a year of retribution,^(J) to uphold Zion’s cause.
⁹ Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch,
    her dust into burning sulfur;^(K)
    her land will become blazing pitch!
¹⁰ It will not be quenched^(L) night or day;
    its smoke will rise forever.^(M)
From generation to generation^(N) it will lie desolate;^(O)
    no one will ever pass through it again.

⁶ I trampled^(A) the nations in my anger;
    in my wrath I made them drunk^(B)
    and poured their blood^(C) on the ground.”

“For three sins of Edom,^(A)
    even for four, I will not relent.
Because he pursued his brother with a sword^(B)
    and slaughtered the women of the land,
because his anger raged continually
    and his fury flamed unchecked,^(C)
12 I will send fire on Teman^(D)
    that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.^(E)”

¹⁶ Just as you drank^(A) on my holy hill,^(B)
    so all the nations will drink^(C) continually;
they will drink and drink
    and be as if they had never been.^(D)

¹⁶ You will be filled with shame^(A) instead of glory.^(B)
    Now it is your turn! Drink^(C) and let your nakedness be exposed^[a]!^(D)
The cup^(E) from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you,
    and disgrace will cover your glory.
