²⁶ So Joseph died, being 110 years old. They ^(A)embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

¹⁴ They buried him in the tomb that he had cut for himself in the city of David. They laid him on a bier ^(A)that had been filled with various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer's art, ^(B)and they made a very great fire in his honor.

The Resurrection

16 ^(A)(B)When the Sabbath was past, ^(C)Mary Magdalene, ^(D)Mary the mother of James, and ^(E)Salome ^(F)bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.

⁵⁶ Then they returned and ^(A)prepared spices and ointments.

On the Sabbath they rested ^(B)according to the commandment.

^39 (A)Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus^[a] by night, came ^(B)bringing a mixture of ^(C)myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds^[b] in weight. ⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus and ^(D)bound it in ^(E)linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
