³⁵ It is mine to avenge;^(A) I will repay.^(B)
    In due time their foot will slip;^(C)
their day of disaster is near
    and their doom rushes upon them.^(D)”

³² I will punish their sin with the rod,
    their iniquity with flogging;^(A)

²³ He will repay^(A) them for their sins
    and destroy^(B) them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

⁸ Lord our God,
    you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,^(A)
    though you punished^(B) their misdeeds.^[a]

²⁰ May this be the Lord’s payment^(A) to my accusers,
    to those who speak evil^(B) of me.

the Lord will punish with his sword^(B)—
    his fierce, great and powerful sword—
Leviathan^(C) the gliding serpent,^(D)
    Leviathan the coiling serpent;
he will slay the monster^(E) of the sea.

⁹ Should I not punish them for this?”^(A)
    declares the Lord.
“Should I not avenge^(B) myself
    on such a nation as this?
