⁸ Now in the morning ^(A)his spirit was troubled, so he sent messengers and called for all the ^(B)soothsayer priests of Egypt, and all its ^(C)wise men. And Pharaoh told them his ^[a]dreams, but ^(D)there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.

¹¹ Then Pharaoh also ^(A)called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the ^(B)soothsayer priests of Egypt, did the same with ^(C)their secret arts.

²⁰ As for every matter of ^(A)expertise ^[a]and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ^(B)ten times ^(C)better than all the ^(D)soothsayer priests and conjurers who were in all his realm.

¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered ^[a]the king and said, “There is no person on earth who could declare the matter ^[b]to the king, because no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any ^(A)soothsayer priest, sorcerer, or Chaldean.

²⁷ Daniel answered before the king and said, “As for the secret about which the king has inquired, neither ^(A)wise men, sorcerers, soothsayer priests, nor diviners are able to declare it to the king.

⁶ So I gave orders to ^(A)bring into my presence all the wise men of Babylon, so that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

⁷ The king called aloud to bring in the ^(A)sorcerers, the ^[a]Chaldeans, and the diviners. The king began speaking and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Anyone who can read this inscription and explain its interpretation to me shall be ^(B)clothed with purple and have a ^(C)necklace of gold around his neck, and have authority as ^(D)third ruler in the kingdom.”
