Genesis 27:39-41
GOD’S WORD Translation
39 His father Isaac answered him,
“The place where you live will lack the fertile fields of the earth
and the dew from the sky above.
40 You will use your sword to live,
and you will serve your brother.
But eventually you will gain your freedom
and break his yoke [a] off your neck.”
41 So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing that his father had given him. Esau said to himself, “The time to mourn for my father is near. Then I’ll kill my brother Jacob.”

- 27:40 A yoke is a wooden bar placed over the necks of work animals so that they can pull plows or carts.

New International Version
39 His father Isaac answered him,(A)
“Your dwelling will be
away from the earth’s richness,
away from the dew(B) of heaven above.(C)
40 You will live by the sword
and you will serve(D) your brother.(E)
But when you grow restless,
you will throw his yoke
from off your neck.(F)”
41 Esau held a grudge(G) against Jacob(H) because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning(I) for my father are near; then I will kill(J) my brother Jacob.”(K)
