¹⁵ otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they would prostitute themselves with their gods and ^(A)sacrifice to their gods, and someone ^(B)might invite you ^[a]to eat of his sacrifice, ¹⁶ and ^(C)you might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might prostitute themselves with their gods and cause your sons also to prostitute themselves with their gods.

³ Furthermore, ^(A)you shall not intermarry with them: you shall not give your ^[a]daughters to ^[b]their sons, nor shall you take ^[c]their daughters for your ^[d]sons. ⁴ For ^[e]they will turn your ^[f]sons away from ^[g]following Me, and they will serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and ^(B)He will quickly destroy you.

¹² For if you ever go back and ^(A)cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain with you, and ^(B)intermarry with them, so that you ^[a]associate with them and they with you,
