Moses on the Mountain. ¹² The Lord said to Moses: Come up to me on the mountain and, while you are there, I will give you the stone tablets^(A) on which I have written the commandments intended for their instruction.

¹⁸ When the Lord had finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant, the stone tablets inscribed by God’s own finger.^(A)

¹⁵ Moses then turned and came down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hands,^(A) tablets that were written on both sides, front and back. ¹⁶ The tablets were made by God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.^{(B) 17} Now, when Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “That sounds like a battle in the camp.” ¹⁸ But Moses answered,

¹⁹ As he drew near the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets down and broke them on the base of the mountain.^(C)

³³ But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days—oracle of the Lord. I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.^(A)

^19 (A)And I will give them another heart and a new spirit I will put within them. From their bodies I will remove the hearts of stone, and give them hearts of flesh,

^26 (A)I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.^{(B) 27} I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them.^(C)
