⁴ “^(A)You shall not make for yourself ^[a]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. ^5 (B)You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a ^(C)jealous God, ^(D)inflicting the ^[b]punishment of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, ⁶ but showing ^[c]favor to ^(E)thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Blessings of Obedience

26 ‘You shall not make for yourselves ^(A)idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves ^(B)a carved image or ^(C)a memorial stone, nor shall you place a ^(D)figured stone in your land to bow down ^[a]to it; for I am the Lord your God.

¹⁵ “So ^(A)be very careful ^[a]yourselves, since you did not see any ^(B)form on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, ¹⁶ so that you do not ^(C)act corruptly and ^(D)make a carved image for yourselves in the form of any figure, a representation of male or female, ¹⁷ a representation of any animal that is on the earth, a representation of ^(E)any winged bird that flies in the sky, ¹⁸ a representation of anything that crawls on the ground, or a representation of any fish that is in the water below the earth.

¹⁵ ‘Cursed is the person who makes ^(A)a carved image or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And ^(B)all the people shall reply and say, ‘Amen.’
