⁴ Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What should I do with these people? In a little while they will stone me!”^(A)

¹⁶ Whoever blasphemes the name of Yahweh is to be put to death;^(A) the whole community must stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the foreign resident or the native.

⁶ David was in a difficult position because the troops talked about stoning him,^(A) for they were all very bitter over the loss of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.^(B)

¹¹ The men of his city, the elders and nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had commanded them, as was written in the letters she had sent them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ The two wicked men came in and sat opposite him. Then the wicked men testified against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed God and the king!” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.

Renewed Efforts to Stone Jesus

³¹ Again the Jews picked up rocks to stone Him.^(A)

⁸ “Rabbi,”^(A) the disciples told Him, “just now the Jews tried to stone You,^(B) and You’re going there again?”
