¹³ The Egyptians ^[a]used violence to compel the sons of Israel ^(A)to labor; ¹⁴ and they made ^(B)their lives bitter with hard labor in mortar and bricks and at all kinds of labor in the field, all their labors which they violently had them perform as slaves.

⁴⁶ You may also pass them on as an inheritance to your sons after you, to receive as a possession; you can use them as permanent slaves. ^(A)But in respect to your countrymen, the sons of Israel, you shall not rule with ^[a]severity over one another.

⁵³ He shall be with him like a worker hired year by year; ^(A)he shall not rule over him with ^[a]severity in your sight.

⁴ Those who are sickly you have not strengthened, the diseased you have not healed, ^(A)the broken you have not bound up, the scattered you have not brought back, nor have you ^(B)searched for the lost; but with force and with violence you have ^[a]dominated them.

4 Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, ^(A)knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
