¹² “^(A)He who strikes someone so that he dies shall certainly be put to death. ^13 (B)Yet ^[a]if he did not lie in wait for him, but ^(C)God caused him to fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee. ^14 (D)If, however, someone is enraged against his neighbor, so as to kill him in a cunning way, you are to take him even from My altar, to be put to death.

An Eye for an Eye

¹⁷ ‘Now ^(A)if someone ^[a]takes any human life, he must be put to death.

^33 (A)So you shall not defile the land in which you live; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except ^(B)by the blood of the one who shed it.

⁵² Then Jesus *said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for ^(A)all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.
