^2 (A)And you shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has ^(B)led you in the wilderness these forty years, in order to humble you, ^(C)putting you to the test, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

¹⁶ In the wilderness it was He who fed you manna ^(A)which your fathers did not know, in order to humble you and in order to ^(B)put you to the test, to do good for you ^[a]in the end.

¹⁷ By faith ^(A)Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and the one who had ^(B)received the promises was offering up his ^[a]only son;

^12 (A)Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has ^[a]been approved, he will receive ^(B)the crown of life which the Lord ^(C)has promised to those who ^(D)love Him. ¹³ No one is to say when he is tempted, “^(E)I am being tempted ^[b]by God”; for God cannot be tempted ^[c]by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. ¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
