³¹ For the Lord your God is ^(A)a merciful God. ^(B)He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.

^23 (A)But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them, ^(B)and he turned towards them, ^(C)because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now.

³¹ Nevertheless, ^(A)in your great mercies ^(B)you did not make an end of them or forsake them, ^(C)for you are a gracious and merciful God.

^2 (A)God has not rejected his people whom he ^(B)foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel?
