Deuteronomy 5:23-25

23 And then[a] when you heard[b] the voice from the midst of the darkness, and as the mountain was burning with fire, and and all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me, 24 you said, ‘Look, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire; this day we have seen[c] that God can speak with a human being, yet he remains alive.[d] 25 And so then why shall we die, for this great fire will consume us if we continue[e] to hear the voice of Yahweh our God any longer, and so we shall die?

23 When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leaders of your tribes and your elders(A) came to me. 24 And you said, “The Lord our God has shown us(B) his glory and his majesty,(C) and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a person can live even if God speaks with them.(D) 25 But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer.(E)
