¹⁹ I served the Lord with great humility and with tears^(A) and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents.^(B)

²³ After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him,^(A)

²⁴ but Saul learned of their plan.^(A) Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him.

⁵ There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews,^(A) together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.^(B)

The Plot to Kill Paul

¹² The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy^(A) and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.^(B)

¹⁵ Now then, you and the Sanhedrin^(A) petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”

³ They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.^(A)

²⁶ I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews,^(A) in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city,^(B) in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.^(C)

¹⁶ in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles^(A) so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.^(B) The wrath of God has come upon them at last.^[a]
