Enemies Destroy Themselves

²⁰ They rose early in the morning and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa; and when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: ^(A)Put your trust in the Lord your God and you will endure. Put your trust in His prophets, and succeed.”

⁴ which I commanded your forefathers on the ^(A)day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the ^(B)iron furnace, saying, ‘^(C)Listen to My voice, and ^[a]do according to all that I command you; so you shall be ^(D)My people, and I will be your God,’

⁸ Yet they ^(A)did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in the stubbornness of their evil heart, each one of them; therefore I brought on them all the ^(B)words of this covenant which I commanded them to do, but they did not.’”

¹³ Now then, ^(A)reform your ways and your deeds and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will relent of the disaster which He has pronounced against you.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, may my ^(A)advice be pleasing to you: ^(B)wipe away your sin by doing righteousness, and your wrongdoings by ^(C)showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a ^(D)prolonging of your prosperity.’

²⁹ And Paul said, “I would ^[a]wish to God that even ^[b]in a short or long time not only you, but also all who hear me this day would become such as I myself am, except for these ^(A)chains.”
