³ “You must not go!”^(A) the people pleaded. “If we have to flee, they will not pay any attention to us. Even if half of us die, they will not pay any attention to us because you are worth^[a] 10,000 of us. Therefore, it is better if you support us from the city.”

³⁶ I will give one tribe^(A) to his son,^(B) so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me^(C) in Jerusalem, the city I chose for Myself to put My name there.^(D)

⁴ But because of David, the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem.^(A)

⁷ but because of the covenant the Lord had made with David, He was unwilling to destroy the house of David since the Lord had promised^(A) to give a lamp^(B) to David and to his sons forever.
