8 So the Lord was angry with Judah and Jerusalem. He has made them an object of fear and wonder and shame, as you see with your own eyes. 9 See, our fathers have fallen by the sword. And our sons, our daughters and our wives have been taken away to a strange land because of this. 10 Now it is in my heart to make an agreement with the Lord God of Israel, that His burning anger may turn away from us.

8 Therefore, the anger of the Lord has fallen on Judah and Jerusalem; he has made them an object of dread and horror(A) and scorn,(B) as you can see with your own eyes. 9 This is why our fathers have fallen by the sword and why our sons and daughters and our wives are in captivity.(C) 10 Now I intend to make a covenant(D) with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger(E) will turn away from us.
