²⁶ Then David said to the men who were standing by him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and rids Israel of ^(A)the disgrace? For who is this ^(B)uncircumcised Philistine, that he has dared to ^(C)defy the armies of ^(D)the living God?”

³⁶ Your servant has ^[a]killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”

⁴⁵ But David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a ^[a]saber, ^(A)but I come to you in the name of the Lord of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

²¹ When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, struck and killed him.
